Co-operative Bike Park holds Grand Opening

On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the Rocky Mountain Bike Park Society held the official Grand Opening of the brand-new Co-operative Bike Park! The bike park is an incredible addition to our community — a space for people of all ages to get outdoors, get active, and have fun. It features both a beginner and an advanced asphalt Velosolutions pump track, making it the largest Velosolutions track in Alberta and the third-largest in Western Canada.

At the grand opening, attendees enjoyed a free BBQ cooked by Fortis, hot chocolate provided by Cow Lake Store, stunt shows throughout the day from the Hands Up Entertainment stunt riders, and hourly draws for free bicycles. Although it was a chilly day, many community members came out to celebrate and enjoy a ride on the track. As Platinum Sponsors, Rocky Credit Union’s Randall Sugden and Nancy Laperierre, along with Evergreen Co-op’s Shane Buss, were in attendance and took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

It has taken many years of hard work from the Rocky Mountain Bike Park Society to reach this point. In spring 2021, the society began gauging community interest to see how much support there was in Rocky Mountain House for a pump track. From there, they conducted research, put together proposals, and attended meetings until Town Council voted “yes” to a bike park. In March 2022, land was gifted to the Bike Park Society, allowing them to begin making their dream a reality. They held their first fundraising event in May 2022 and continued raising funds over the next three summers, collaborating with countless local businesses and organizations along the way.

In 2024, Rocky Credit Union celebrated our 80th anniversary. As a way to give back and invest in our community, we were proud to contribute to the bike park project. Together with our friends at Evergreen Co-op, we each donated $100,000 to the Rocky Mountain Bike Park Society, and it was decided that the park would be named the “Co-operative Bike Park.” In April 2025, the Bike Park Society received a $684,000 grant from the Government of Alberta, marking the point at which enough funding had been raised to begin construction.

Construction of Phase 1, which includes the pump tracks, took place throughout the summer of 2025. Unfortunately, the weather did not allow enough time for the grass to properly establish — a vital step for the structural integrity of the tracks and the safety of riders. Despite everyone’s best efforts, the park would have to wait until the following year.

In spring 2026, the long-awaited Co-operative Bike Park officially opened! Throughout the summer, countless individuals have made use of the space and enjoyed riding with their friends and families.

We at Rocky Credit Union are so proud of the Rocky Mountain Bike Park Society and their tremendous efforts to turn this community dream into a reality. And there’s more to come! The plan is for an eventual Skills Park winding through the trees as part of Phase 2 of the project.

If you haven’t had the chance yet, we hope you’ll take some time to check out the latest “fun thing to do” in Rocky Mountain House!
