Rocky Credit Union is proud to announce its latest addition to our Financial Literacy Program - www.rockyourmoney.ca - a website designed to provide honest financial advice for young adults.
Www.rockyourmoney.ca covers major topics of investing, borrowing, budgeting and avoiding fraud. Videos and articles are written and presented by Rocky Credit Union staff and are based on staff members’ own training and experience in the financial services industry and in life.
The new website is just one part of Rocky Credit Union’s Financial Literacy Program. Over the past 7 years the Credit Union has offered budget, investing and managing debt classes to the public through the Rocky Learning Centre, local schools and the Rocky Public Library, as well as teaching Junior Achievement classes in school to help youth understand more about business and money.
Alan Marshall, Rocky Credit Union Chairman and retired principal, said “During my many years in education I heard from numerous parents and teachers of a need for financial education throughout the school years. We are excited to be able to help schools provide financial literacy programs from financial professionals to students across many grade levels. I am proud the credit union is leading in this long overdue service.”
Doug Glessing, CEO of Rocky Credit Union, explained “Education is one of Rocky Credit Union’s Guiding Principles. We believe that by having access to honest and clear financial information our members, and the community as a whole, better understand how money works and benefit from decisions based on facts about money.”
“Money is at the core of many of life’s decisions. It doesn’t buy happiness, but the lack of it, or the mismanagement of it, can cause a lot of preventable stresses in life. Through our Financial Literacy Program we will help young adults form good financial habits early.”
Jerry Pratt, Manager, Marketing & Org Support, said “We have each made money mistakes in the past and we hope that by sharing some of our life lessons we can help others avoid those same mistakes. We also know many people who have benefited from making good financial decisions, and we hope to share lessons from their positive experiences.”
The website, www.rockyourmoney.ca, will add 3 or 4 articles and videos each month.
